Late 2024 the English translation of ‘Een horzel steekt niet’ got published. The Voynich Affair is an intricate novel about the Irish writer Ethel Lilian Boole-Voynich, the time before the Russian revolution, the way British socialists got involved with that revolution, Tsarist counter espionage and agent provocateurs, a spy named Rosenblum (a.k.a. Sidney Reilly), an Italian affair an a novel that stayed largely unknown in the West but was printed in the millions in the USSR and communist nations.
The story is loosely based on the life of Ethel Voynich and her dealings with Russian revolutionairies and spies. It is also a story about a very strong and determent woman who lived in complicated times. Most of the novel is close to historical, but of course not entirely. After all, it is an adventurous spy novel as well.
The Voynich Affair is an illustrated novel with wonderful ink drawing by Puck & Moon and is available through online bookstores globally.
More information on this novel can be found at the special book website including character and author information, a 1950’s film about Ethel Voynich and a collection of book covers of her novel The Gadfly.
